Country-Specific Account Details

In Mexico, local bank transfers in Mexican Pesos (MXN) are primarily handled via SPEI (Sistema de Pagos Electrónicos Interbancarios). SPEI is the Bank of Mexico's real-time payment system that enables electronic transfers between different banks in seconds. The key identifier for these transfers is the CLABE. There's also TEF (Transferencia Electrónica de Fondos), an older transfer method.

CLABE (Clave Bancaria Estandarizada)

The CLABE is a unique 18-digit number that identifies any bank account in Mexico for receiving and sending interbank transfers. It's the standardized equivalent of an account number for transactions between different institutions. Every bank account has a unique CLABE.

TEF (Transferencia Electrónica de Fondos)

TEF is an older and less common bank transfer method today compared to SPEI. Unlike SPEI, which is instant, TEF transfers usually take up to 24 business hours to reflect, especially if the transfer is between different banks. For a TEF transfer, similar data to SPEI is required.
